Police officers can be overweight for the same reasons as anyone else. The job can involve lots of sitting in cars or at desks, irregular shifts, poor sleep, stress, and convenient fast food during long shifts. Age and reduced activity can also contribute. Being overweight doesn’t necessarily mean someone is unfit, though—fitness depends on things like cardiovascular health, strength and body composition too.
